Lafontaine Cadillac, Buick, GMC, Inc., a well known car dealership based in Highland, Michigan, has agreed to pay $75,000 to settle a racial harassment lawsuit.

According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the agency that filed the lawsuit, the dealer “unlawfully subjected a black employee to a racially hostile work environment.”

The lawsuit notes that an African American detailer for the dealership was abused with racial jokes and slurs, including the use of the “N-word.”

Race discrimination, among other types, is a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

In addition to paying the man $75,000, the dealership must provide anti-discrimination training to all supervisors, managers, officers, and HR personnel. Furthermore, it must create a new anti-discrimination policy to ensure that this problem does not come to the forefront again in the future.
